JAKARTA (Antara): A 4.2-Richter scale earthquake Saturday hit coastal areas in the Aceh provincial capital of Banda Aceh, but there was no report of damage, casualty and tsunami.
Syahnan, head of Meteorology and Geophysics' (BMG) monitoring post in Mata Ie, Aceh Besar Regency, said epicenter of the tremor occuring at 8:24 a.m. was 91 kilometers Northwest of Blang Pidi, the capital of Aceh Barat Daya regency.
Syahnan said after a strong quake in late 2004, sparking huge tsunami, killing more than 200,000 people across Asia, Aceh province was often hit by earthquakes. Weaker tremors occur between five t0 10 times per day.
