TEMPO Interactive, Sleman: Indonesian 'Salak Pondoh' acquired a brand certificate of Prima III as export standard yesterday. “This is the only fruit in Indonesia meeting the international standard,” said International Marketing Director of Agriculture Department, Dr Suryadi. He explained that Salak can be harvested in all seasons so it can maintain its continuity. The certificate declares Salak safe to be consumed.
Salak Pondoh from Sleman breaks into the Chinese market with 3-4 tons production every day. Salak Pondoh is bred at three sub-districts of Tempel, Turi, and Pakem. In 2,000 hectares of land, 50,000 tons of salak can be produced every year.
Since its first export on September 29, 2008, 100 tons of salak has been exported.
Sixty four hectares of land has been recognized as good and fulfills the standard operational procedure. “It is targeted to have 150 hectares this year so there will be more Salak to be exported,” said head of the Sleman Agriculture Department, Riyadi Martoyo.
