Jakarta, Indonesia (AHN) - At least nine persons were reported missing when a passenger ferry with 11 people on board disappeared on Sunday off the Indonesian resort island of Bali, authorities said.
Reports from the state's official Antara news agency said that two passengers of the missing "Sinar Baru" had managed to make it to Pentai Buktu beach, some 69 miles northeast of Bali's capital Densapar. The boat was en route to Lombok from Surabaya when it disappeared.
Ketut Parwa, an official from Bali said the boat was reported missing at 3:30 am (local time) on Sunday.
He said search and rescue teams have been dispatched in the area to look for any survivors and to search for the missing boat.
Parwa said, We have yet to receive information from the two people who survived the ordeal as they are still in shock."
The latest missing boat is the third in the past few days. On Friday night, a passenger ferry carrying over 600 passengers sank off Java after encountering a storm. Another ferry with 100 people on board and en route to Bangka island from Sumatra island, capsized Thursday, killing at least three people.
