KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara (Antara) : Another ship has sank as it was hit by high waves in the waters of East Nusa Tenggara province, killing one of its four crew members.
The Sius Tokan cargo ship sank Tuesday, but a search and rescue team could locate it only Wednesday, said Sentianus Medi, an official responsible for disaster in East Nusa Tenggaraprovince Wednesday.
"Search and rescue team saved three crew members and found the body of a dead crew member," he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.
Two of the three crew members are ship captain A. Rochim and his assistant Fadli Tepen, but Anton Kellen, was killed during the incident in an area close to Tanjung Boang in Semua Island, Kupang regency.
A fishing boat also went on missing in the waters last Saturday, killing one of the fisherman.
Bad weather was blamed over several other ship accidents, including the Senopati Nusantara, which sank after being pounded by heavy waves for more than 10 hours as it neared the end of a two-day journey from Kalimantan Island to Central Java.
The ferry, which was built in Japan in 1992, had a capacity of 850 people. Officials say bad weather was the cause of the accident.
