A volcanologist at Mount Talang in Solok regency, West Sumatra, has warned local residents of more volcanic ejecta flow.
“There are thousands of square meters of material from the 2005 Mt. Talang eruption that piled up at upstream sections of four rivers. The ejecta could slide downstream to residential areas.
“Yesterday, there was only a little amount of debris carried away by a landslide to Nagari Sungai Janiah [of Solok regency],” volcanologist Dalipa Marjusi told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
On Tuesday evening, a landslide and volcanic debris hit Nagari Sungai Janiah from two rivers, washing away eight homes and hundreds of hectares of paddy fields as well as damaging two bridges. Around 1,500 residents have been cut off.
