TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Forestry Ministry will not release the lands that are categorized as production forests, protected forests, national parks, and conservation areas for the food estate program in Merauke, Papua. “We will give the license to converted forest areas,” Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan said during the launch of the forestry licensing service reform program in Jakarta yesterday.
Zulkifli was commenting on the statement made by Merauke regent Johanes Gluba Gebze that land licensing issues was one thing that impeded the implementation of food estate programs. The reason is that, besides the indigenous lands that must be negotiated with the owners, there are production lands owned by the Forestry Ministry. The program was initially scheduled to be officially launched by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono this month.
The license to clear lands outside the converred forest areas, Zulkifli continued, could be given if it was part of the province’s spatial plan. Therefore, the provincial government must submit the spatial plans after it has been studied by the Public Works Ministry and approved by the DPR. “We will give the license if all of the related parties have approved it,” he said.
