The disaster alleviation team for Malang announced on Sunday that the regency was on full alert after Mount Semeru's eruption alert level was elevated to the highest.
The team's chairman Rendra Kresna told tempointeraktif.com that six regions, namely Ampelgading, Tirtoyudo, Dampit, Wajak, Poncokusumo and Tumpang, were at risk.
"Those areas are at risk of harmful showers of ash and other vulcanic material including hot gas," Kresna said.
The volcanic mudflows are predicted to flow through the lava channels running under the Pronojiwo region in Lumajang, he added.
All residents have been notified of impending volcanic activities. (amr)
