SURABAYA (Antara): Two people were killed and many houses and buildings were damaged after a typhoon hit Mayangan and Kademangan in Probolinggo, East Java, at around 5 p.m. on Monday.
Probolinggo city police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Topan Herinoto said the strong wind swept the area only around 10 minutes but the damages it had caused were quite huge.
The wind accompanied by quite heavy rain blew away many roofs, damaged buildings and uprooted trees, he said.
He said two people were killed in the disaster, one after being struck by lightning and another after a wall fell upon him.
He said he did not know yet how many had been wounded in the incident. "Police officers are still conducting evacuations," he said.
