President Susilo Bambang Yudhyono has now three staffs on environmental affairs with the appointment of Rachmat Witoelar as a special envoy for climate change to strengthen Indonesia’s position on international forum.
Noted expert Emil Salim was currently a special adviser on environmental problems to President, while Agus Purnomo was named as a special assistant to President on the climate change affairs.
Rachmat, who was also executive director of the National Council on Climate Change, would be entitled for financial and other facilities, the same given to State Minister.
“Pak President wants Indonesia to play more roles on the climate talks. The appointment of a special envoy is also the national interests,” he told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
The appointment was made on a presidential decision dated May 10, 2010.
Rachmat, who is also former minister for environment, said that the position was needed to strengthen the Indonesia’s position on climate forums both in multilateral and bilateral talks.
