2010 Indonesia Earthquake – 8 May 6.1 Quake Shakes Indonesia Today. This just in: The USGS has indicated that a 5.7 earthquake has hit Indonesia. This isn’t the first time this year that this has happened in that area. This time, it appears as if the area is lucky – there haven’t been any reports of damage or casualties.
So far within the last couple of hours, Indonesia has experienced a 6.1 earthquake near Nusa Tenggara Barat Province which is populated with some 3.6 million people.
Other indonesian quakes today include a 5.0 and a 5.6 quake.
Indonesia sits on a dangerous and very techtonic area called the Pacific Rim of Fire. There are more earthquakes in this area than in other areas in the Pacific Rim.
