Palu (ANTARA News) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla reminded the people not to underestimate copra as it has a very high economic value.
"Ten years ago, copra was still regarded as an ordinary commodity. But now this commodity should be further promoted," Kalla said at a get-together with local authorities and community leaders of Central Sulawesi here on Tuesday.
He said that Central Sulawesi was the biggest copra producer in Indonesia, so that the marketing of this commodity should be further intensified in order to improve the economy of local people.
"The local government should help copra farmers in marketing the commodity," he said.
In addition, Kalla called on the local farmers to improve the production of rattan, cocoa and wooden products.
These commodities will raise the income of the farmers, contributing more revenue to the local government," he said.
Furthermore, a province could be proud if it was economically advanced, he said, adding that being advanced economically means that the level of social welfare has been good.
According to him, security is the most important consideration to support the sustainable development of the region.
