C. Java women join tree planting push

PURWOKERTO, Central Java (Jakarta Post): About 500 women from Banyumas planted 50,750 trees in the Kendalisada campground in Kalibagor on Saturday, as part of a national tree-planting campaign.

They planted various kinds of tree seedlings, including akasia mangium, merbau, nagasari, banyan, teak, rambutan and mango.

The leader of a local women's organization, Aris Sationo, said the event was part of national efforts to fight global warming.

"I hope this effort will not stop here, but can be continued," she said. -- JP
