Earthquake hits West Sumatra

JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post): Earthquake measuring 5 at Richter scale early Tuesday rattled several areas in West Sumatra sparking panic among residents, MetroTV reported.

The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) reported that the epicenter of the tremor was located some 87 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital of Badang or some 100 kilometers underthe sea.

The television reported that the quake had caused a number of houses posing minor damage.
